Matt Mogas

Despite having grown up around MOGAS Industries, Matt Mogas never felt predestined to join the company his father founded. In fact, after graduating with an economics degree from Tulane University in 1990, Matt was hoping to stay in New Orleans. He entertained opportunities in banking and insurance there, but neither industry particularly appealed to him. The vice president of sales for MOGAS offered Matt an opportunity that did appeal to him — a position in MOGAS’ Inside Sales group, and more importantly, a chance to obtain thorough sales training and gain invaluable experience. The vice president assured Matt that if he wasn’t happy at MOGAS after a year, he would have learned the knowledge and skills necessary to move into a variety of industrial sales positions.

While Matt was content at MOGAS, after nearly three years with inside sales he was ready for a change. He considered positions with other companies, but was offered an opportunity to move into Outside Sales with MOGAS. For Matt, this was a perfect fit. He loved being in the field, meeting clients, solving problems, seeing the product in service and learning the applications where MOGAS valves prevailed over other valves.

Through the mid-1990s, MOGAS experienced tremendous growth, particularly in international markets where resurging industries led to increased demand for severe service ball valves. Matt directed much of his attention overseas and on specialty markets, including the refining industry, until 1998, when he was named Vice President of Sales & Marketing. Under Matt’s direction, sales continued to climb, and in 2000 Matt was named President and COO of MOGAS Industries. In 2009, Matt became CEO and President, overseeing both daily operations as well as setting long-term goals and strategies. Today, Matt is MOGAS’ CEO and COO, and is expanding the business into adjacent markets beyond valves to include coating technology and modular process units (skids).
Although having spent his entire business career at MOGAS, Matt manages to successfully inject new spirit and vitality into the organization. How does he do it? He will tell you it is something he learned from his father and from one of football’s winningest coaches, Jimmy Johnson. Surround yourself with smart, talented people, and then remain humble enough to listen to them and open-minded enough to accept their ideas. 
Matt and his wife, Melinda, have two daughters, Meghan and Macy. Matt spends much of his spare time enjoying his own athletic endeavors and spending quality time with his family. He is on the board of directors of Camp For All and an annual volunteer camp counsellor at Camp Periwinkle.
